Community Forums

The Partnership hosted a series of 3 nonprofit community convenings around Advocacy, a subject matter most relevant to the sector. The Advocacy Forum Series kicked off on February 19, 2009, answering the important question "What is advocacy and why should I care?" During this session, we learned about the change that advocacy has on policy in Prince George's County and how it can help you do your work more effectively.

The second convening was on March 12, 2009 and answered the question "Now that I care, what can I do?" This session presented information on how you can make a difference for the nonprofit sector as a whole, as well as the work that you do individually with your organization.

The final session will took place on April 2, 2009 and answered the question "Now that I know, how do I tell people?"

Please find the handouts and presentations from these forums above.

Self-Assessment

The Partnership’s self-assessment tool was developed to be used in our capacity building grants process. It has been praised as a user-friendly self-guide that helps organizations zero in on both areas of strength and areas of improvement. The Self-Assessment is comprehensive and covers all major areas the Partnership deems essential to nonprofit organizations.

Given the strong response this tool, the Partnership decided to make the self-assessment available to any organization that wants to use it. Our tool is currently being used in grants programs and trainings with several other foundations and management service organizations. Click here to download the self-assessment template.

Small Organizations Workshop

On June 20, 2008, the Partnership sponsored a workshop focused on the unique needs and concerns of small nonprofits (organizations with budgets of $50,000 or less). Over 40 organizations representing a broad cross-section of the Prince George's County nonprofit community were in attendance at this workshop facilitated by Rachel Gibson of Mosaica. Below are the handouts:

Nonprofit Network

One of the main objectives of the Partnership is to form, then work in conjunction with, a strong Nonprofit Network that is focused on advocating on behalf of the Prince George's County nonprofit sector for a seat at the decision-making table. The Network consists of all grantees of the Partnership, including the Human Services Coalition, with plans to expand from there.
