Welcome to the Partnership for Prince George’s CountyWe are an innovative, collaborative philanthropic effort made up of local, regional and national foundations, individual donors, nonprofit organizations and county public officials. Together, we share a vision and commitment of strengthening the nonprofit sector in Prince George’s County, as well as enhancing the impact and efficiency of regional philanthropic investment in the county. Our unique collaborative effort was officially launched in January 2008 after a series of five county-wide forums held in 2006/2007. These forums were co-sponsored by the Washington Grantmaker’s Sustainable Communities Working Group and the Prince George’s Community Foundation, a regional affiliate of the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region. Advocacy Forum Series: Insuring nonprofits' place at the tableThe Partnership for Prince George's County, in collaboration with the Human Services Coalition and the Partnership for Equity (a funding collaborative of the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region), cordially invites you to join us at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex located at 8001 Sherriff Road in Landover from 8:30 to noon to attend our series of three forums focused on nonprofit community organizing: February 19, 2009 What is advocacy and why should I care? This forum will focus on defining nonprofit community advocacy, what it really means and why it is important to nonprofits both individually and collectively. Attendees will be given an overall definition of its role, distinguish the difference between advocacy from lobbying, and ultimately illustrate why it is important. This forum will also address many of the questions nonprofits have related to advocacy and IRS regulations, as well as other legal "do's and don'ts" of nonprofit advocacy. March 12, 2009 Now that I care about advocacy, what can I do? This workshop will highlight the Human Services Coalition (HSC) and the work it is already doing in engaging legislators. It will also specifically address three areas of "low hanging fruit" for the Prince George's County nonprofits to rally around:
April 2, 2009 Now that I know about nonprofit advocacy, how do I tell people? The last workshop of the Partnership's series will focus on the overall strategy as well as the "nuts-and-bolts" logistics of launching nonprofit advocacy efforts. It will provide nonprofits with tangible information so that you can begin this work immediately. This forum will also focus on effective communications; such as, simple ways to frame the work, develop effective talking points, and express those points convincingly both in writing and speaking. This forums series is funded by a generous matching grant from the Partnership for Equity, a funder collaborative and program of the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region. Interested in attending one or more of these forums? Email your RSVP to events@partnershippgc.org. Space is limited. Second Round of Capacity Building Funding UnderwayThe grantmaking process for the second round of capacity building funding to inner-beltway nonprofits is well underway and recipients will be announced some time in April 2009. The Partnership has allocated another $150,000 in capacity building funding for organizations serving the inner beltway communities of the County, and grant amounts will range from $5,000 to $25,000 to nonprofits with operating budgets between $50,000 and $1.5 million. In recognition of the current economic climate, funding for this round is specifically targeting organizations in the inner beltway that are providing lifeline services. The Partnership is defining lifeline services as: services providing families with basic necessities and sustenance including food, housing, medical care/preventive care, childcare, job training and emergency financial assistance to our most vulnerable residents.
